Team Kanban Practitioner (TKP)

Who should attend?

Team members in professional services roles whose employer wishes to explore and pursue an alternative path to agility. Those who feel overburdened and wish to find some respite to enable them to “get things done” with quality, improved speed, and predictability. Managers and team members who need help focusing on what to work on now, what to leave until later and what to discard altogether. Those who want relief from overburdening so that they can take pride of workmanship and do good quality work in an effective manner.

Learning Outcomes

Attendees should become familiar with the Kanban Method. They should be able to design and implement a basic Kanban board. They should be able to understand work item types and the risks associated with specific work items. They should be familiar with a variety of different Team Kanban board designs and styles and know how to choose a design that is best suited for their context. They should be aware of the training roadmap and the value and benefits to be derived at each step on the “alternative path to agility.”

Kanban System Design (KMP I)

This 2-day course is for managers, developers, and anyone wanting to learn the fundamentals of the Kanban Method®. This course, also known as Kanban Management Professional I (KMP I), is the first of two courses towards the Kanban Management Professional (KMP) credential. KMP I is the prerequisite to KMP II. By completing both KMP I and KMP II, participants can achieve the KMP credential with the Lean Kanban University®.

Who should attend?

This class is for those who take responsibility for improving delivery of products and services to customers of their professional service businesses. First and second line managers, project managers, product managers, experienced individual contributors and technical experts, Scrum Masters, business unit leaders, C-level executives, their improvement coaches and consultants.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will learn how to design a Kanban system and initiate change with Kanban. They will learn the basic concepts of flow, pull, and collaborative improvement. At the end of the training, participants will understand:

  • How to work with shifting priorities
  • How to deal with interrupt work and multi-tasking
  • How to deal with important but not time-critical work
  • How to avoid having work pile up in one place (or time) while there is a lack of work in another place

  • Attendees are also expected to have read the eBook ‘Essential Kanban Condensed’ by David J Anderson and Andy Carmichael, which is free and publicly available on the LKU website.
  • Prior attendance at a Team Kanban Practitioner 1-day course is recommended but not required.
  • KMP Qualification
  • This course satisfies one requirement toward the Kanban Management Professional (KMP) designation. The KMP Foundations II: Kanban Management Professional class will complete the KMP status requirement.

Kanban Management Professional (KMP II)

This 2-day course focuses on the rollout and daily operation of a Kanban system. You will consider what type of Kanban initiative is most appropriate for your organization and how to manage and evolve it over time without trauma.Learn how to improve agility with asymmetrical commitment and cadences. Also covered in this course: recommended meetings, handling metrics, and setting policy.This course is the second of two courses towards the Kanban Management Professional (KMP) credential. By completing both KMP I and KMP II, participants can achieve the KMP credential with the Lean Kanban University®.

KMP Qualification

This course, following completion of the KMP Foundations I: Kanban System Design class, satisfies the Kanban Management Professional (KMP) designation requirement. Attendees will receive the following recognition:

  • Digital KMP status certificate attached to Lean Kanban University website profile
  • KMP badge on the LKU website
  • KMP badge file for use in professional websites, business cards and other locations
  • Eligibility for special invitations, discounts, and content only available to LKU members
